We are very proud to announce that Umani Hotel & Beach is awarded First Prize in the prestigious national competition for 2022 “Building of the Year”, category Holiday and Spa Hotels. We are grateful to STARH Studio for designing an outstanding architectural project, to VSK Ltd. for its successful realization, to ESLINE design studio for the exquisite interior design and all subcontractors who made the Umani project what it is.
The award ceremony took place on 15th of December 2022, organized by the City Media Group. The event brought together the elite of specialists and managers in the fields of architecture, construction, investing and real estate at the Sofia Event Center. The best projects for 2022 in different categories were awarded, including Umani Hotel & Beach. This event is the summit of the industry achievements in Bulgaria for the entire year and its awards are the highest recognition of excellence of the awarded projects.
The Construction Chamber of Bulgaria, the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, the Union of Architects in Bulgaria, and the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design support its organization, which is carried out under the direction of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.
The contemporary architectural design has been recognized with eight international awards, prior to receiving the First Prize for Building of the Year, among which are Winner of the American Architecture Prize, Interarch XIV World Triennial of Architecture, silver medal, Architecture Master Prize – in three categories, Architizer A+Award, Arch design, Archinova and others. The project itself was published and mentioned in many professional magazines such as Archdaily, Architizer, AECCaffer and many more. And the list goes on…
About the architectural design
The concept of the project is to design a building that blends in naturally with its surroundings and appears light, airy, and unobtrusive. This structure blends in seamlessly with the rest of the environment and landscape, increasing its attractiveness without overpowering it.
The simplistic design is entirely subordinated to the natural features of the property – a strictly orthogonal rectangular prism that fits between the tall trees and the massive rocks, and lands in between without disturbing the densely landscaped screen. In order to achieve a greater mimicry, the design of the facades is entirely completed in vertical Finnish Тhermоwood battens, which encircle the entire structure. Dynamic is introduced by taking away from the volume in several areas where loggias are formed, while they are emphasized by the clean line of the glass.
The clear floor plans and maximally large windows of the hotel rooms allow them to change their view in height – from the richness of the vegetation to the endless expanse of the sea horizon, which gradually appears. Umani Hotel has a humane way of influence – both because of its delicate intervention and because of the peaceful experience it brings. Total build up area is 3 600 sq.m
The biggest challenge of the project was to preserve all trees and rocks that cover the slope of the property. Good organization and enthusiasm between all participants in the process is the cornerstone of the project and its successful implementation – as investment, architecture and execution.
