Varna Summer Fest: International Music Festival

Enjoy the award-winning music festival in Varna

Founded in the city of Varna in 1926, the “Varna Summer” International Music Festival is the oldest music festival in Bulgaria.

Prominent members of the Varna society at the time, including the composers Pancho Vladigerov and Dobri Hristov, kicked off the first national music celebrations nearly a century ago, shortly after the official opening of the Sea Baths in 1926, the first SPA center in the sea town. These celebrations eventually grew into the largest International Music Festival in Bulgaria.

Among 715 festivals throughout Europe, The Festival was awarded the EFFE label in June 2019 in recognition of its organization and program. This badge is considered Europe’s quality seal. At a unique ceremony held at the Bozar – Center for Fine Arts in Brussels, the IMF and 23 of the greatest festivals on the old continent were awarded this accolade. Later at the same ceremony, EU Commissioner Tibor Navracsics presented the festival with the AUDIENCE AWARD, further confirming its extraordinary success.

The Festival features modules that span multiple genres and comprises:

  • Core Program – symphony and chamber music
  • Music Lab – Varna
  • International Summer Music Academy
  • Opera and Ballet
  • Renaissance and Baroque Music
  • Intermezzo – in partnership with the “Varna Summer” International Theater Festival
  • Crossover
  • “Varna Summer for Kids” – series of educational concerts
  • Parallel Program – exhibitions, films, conferences and others
